Authorities in Mississippi are searching for a convicted murderer who escaped from prison Tuesday, describing him as “desperate” and “extremely dangerous.”
The George County Sheriff’s Office says Drew Johnson, 33, has been released from the South Mississippi Correctional Facility in Leaksville.
In a post on Facebook, the office said: “He is desperate and may be very dangerous. Call his family and warn them. Send them a message and get a response. People are more lenient and let their guard down over Christmas. Be careful and careful.”
Johnson was found guilty in Rankin County, Mississippi, in February 2022 and later sentenced to life in prison.
While awaiting trial in the Mississippi case, Johnson pleaded guilty to several crimes in Shelby County, including the stabbing death of a man whose body was found southwest of Memphis in 2016, according to a 2022 statement released by the Shelby County, Tennessee District Attorney’s Office. . and the attempted murder of a fellow inmate at the Shelby County Jail.
