Voice Memos, the app for musicians of all kinds, now gives iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users the ability to layer vocal tracks over existing instrumental recordings without the need for headphones. With iOS 18.2, users can play their original instrumental ideas through iPhone speakers while recording vocals using the new studio-quality microphone on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Powered by the A18 Pro chip and leveraging advanced processing and machine learning to separate vocal recordings, Voice Memos creates two separate tracks for users to apply additional mixing and production in professional apps like Logic Pro. And with Voice Memos on Mac, layered recordings are synced across multiple devices and can be dragged and dropped from your Mac into a Logic session.
Voice Memos allows users to integrate different background instruments, such as acoustic guitar or piano, as the first layer. Logic Pro allows artists and producers to send their instrumental music mixes directly to Voice Memos as compressed audio files, making it easy to record vocal layers whenever and wherever inspiration strikes.
The trio of GRAMMY Award winners—multi-platinum entertainer Michael Bublé, country star Carly Pearce, and record producer Greg Wells—teamed up to bring new track “Maybe This Christmas” to life using the iPhone 16 Pro’s Voice Memos feature. In a behind-the-scenes video, the artists share the inspiration for their powerful holiday song and detail how the new Voice Memos feature allowed them to record vocals exclusively on iPhone 16 Pro.
