December 17, Astana, Kazakhstan. Freight turnover along the Caspian International Shipping Route (Intermediate Corridor, TITR) increased 63% to 4.1 million tonnes in the first 11 months of the year, according to Trend through the Government of Kazakhstan.
At the same time, container traffic along the so-called Middle Corridor increased by 2.6 times, reaching 50,500 TEU.
During this period, the capacity of the route increased to 6 million tonnes per year, including 100,000 TEU of container traffic.
For reference, the Middle Corridor is an international shipping route that connects Turkye and European countries through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The route is also part of ‘One Belt, One Road’, an international initiative to revive the ancient Silk Road in a modern way.
This year, the TITR Coordination Center was launched to develop infrastructure and expand route capabilities. The new platform will make the corridor more competitive, reducing delivery times between Europe and Asia to 15 days.
