An agitated Luigi Mangione screams at reporters outside a Pennsylvania courthouse ahead of a hearing on possible extradition to New York for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
“It is completely out of sync and an insult to the intelligence and life experience of the American people!” Mangione shouted as he was bundled into a police car and taken to the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg.
The 26-year-old was forced into the building by two police officers who struggled to hold him down as he screamed at television cameras. Before he could get inside, his chest bounced off the wall of the building.
At Tuesday’s hearing, Mangione did not waive his right to contest extradition to New York City, where the University of Pennsylvania graduate is accused in Manhattan Supreme Court of fatally shooting Thompson outside the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday. The CEO was attending an investor meeting for the parent company. UnitedHealth Group.
The judge denied bail for Mangione, who will be sent back to a Pennsylvania prison pending the outcome of extradition proceedings.
Mangione was arrested Monday morning at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Police arrested him after recognizing him as a person of interest being sought by the New York Police Department.
He is facing criminal charges for allegedly possessing a 3D printed handgun and silencer, which Altoona police found in his backpack, as well as a false identification card.
