Liverpool are set to start the month with a non-stop festive schedule, including nine Premier League matches over 29 days.
The Reds are in commanding form heading into December, topping the league and leading the Champions League.
This month’s action will be Arne Slot’s biggest test yet. That’s because Arne Slot continues to have big games and rotate his squad.
Here are the key dates you need to know ahead of Liverpool’s December fixtures.
December 1 – Man City (H)
This month begins with the biggest game of the season so far. The Reds take on a beleaguered Man City side.
Liverpool know a win would open the gap to 11 points at the top, with Pep Guardiola’s side having lost five of their last six games.
It is impossible to downplay the importance of this match, the result could be pivotal at the end of the season.
Slots should see this as a great opportunity to inflict more misery on their rivals.
December 4 – Newcastle (away)
This looks tough on paper.
Three days after the City game, Liverpool head to a Newcastle side that could hurt anyone.
That said, the Magpies have had unpredictable performances this season, sitting 10th in the table, and Monday’s 2-0 defeat at home to West Ham showed their shortcomings.
But St James’ Park will be rocking under the lights and Liverpool will need to play well to win.
December 7 – Everton (away)
December 7 will be an emotional day as Liverpool play their final game against Everton at Goodison Park.
Well, that’s assuming they don’t draw each other in the FA Cup!
Merseyside derbies are often tight matches, especially at Goodison. The home crowd will be desperate to see an upset.
But Liverpool are far superior to their local rivals and should be too strong.
December 10 – Girona (A)
When the Champions League draw was made, some thought Liverpool had been dealt a tricky hand.
Instead, United have won all five of their European games this season. This means that the trip to Girona is one of the least important matches in December.
This should act as an opportunity for slots to shuffle their packs, giving fringe players a chance to shine.
Alexis Mac Allister has been suspended.
December 14 – Fulham (H)
After a string of tough Premier League games, Liverpool are due to host Fulham on December 14.
But the Cottagers are a dangerous team at the moment and former Reds striker Harry Wilson will be keen to impress his former employers.
But dropping points can be very disappointing.
December 18 – Southampton (away)
With so much focus on the league and European competitions, it’s easy to forget that Liverpool are still in the Carabao Cup.
On December 18, they visit Southampton in the quarter-finals, having recently won 3-2 at St Mary’s in the league.
As with the Girona game, changes should be expected, but Slot is not a game that has changed too much this season.
The manager will feel they have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals, especially if the hosts field a second-tier team.
December 22 – Tottenham (A)
Last season’s heartbreaking stoppage-time loss to Tottenham still stings, with a nine-man Liverpool side coming as close as possible to a 1-1 draw.
The trip to north London just before Christmas will be a big test of the Reds’ title credentials.
Ange Postecoglou’s side could beat anyone on the day, with a 4-0 win at Man City in one of their best performances of the season.
A win here would be significant for Liverpool.
Boxing Day – Leicester (H)
The Boxing Day offer looks kind to Liverpool as Leicester head to Anfield.
The Foxes have struggled since they were promoted back to the Premier League with Ruud van Nistelooy replacing Steve Cooper as manager this week.
This match is Liverpool’s easiest of December’s league games, with three comfortable points expected.
December 29 – West Ham (away)
December concludes with a trip to West Ham, with Liverpool aiming to end 2024 on a strong note.
A trip to the London Stadium may be unpredictable, but life under Julen Lopetegui has been disappointing for the Hammers.
At this point we will know much more about how the title race is progressing and whether the Reds will head to the top tier in 2025.
If not, something seriously wrong has happened this month.
