Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to hold important talks with manager Carlo Ancelotti over the next few days. The report comes hours after Los Blancos lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
After winning La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the Supercopa de España last season, Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are on the backfoot. The All-Whites recently started the season on a positive note with a 2-0 win over Atalanta, with Galactico Kylian Mbappe scoring on his debut. Their start in La Liga has also been promising, avoiding defeat in their first nine games in the Spanish top flight.
However, the optimism that shined at the beginning of the season was in vain. Real Madrid have lost three of their last five games, starting with a 4-0 loss to Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in late October. In the next game, Madrid suffered another heavy defeat at home, this time Milan beat them 3–1.
Real Madrid appeared to be out of the rut with back-to-back wins over CA Osasuna (4-0) and Leganes (3-0), but the Champions League match against Liverpool on Wednesday (November 27) got them back to square one. . The defeat at Anfield Stadium leaves the reigning European champions 24th in the Champions League standings, four points adrift of Monaco, who took the last automatic qualifying spot.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid future could be in jeopardy
According to Spanish outlet MARCA, Real Madrid coach Ancelotti is under enormous pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and president Perez is planning a meeting with him to discuss his future. At the meeting, Perez will inform Ancelotti whether he will confirm his term as manager (30 June 2026).
According to MARCA, Real Madrid’s board still trusts Ancelotti to lead the team this season. However, it is unclear whether the club will retain the veteran next season, especially after Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso’s departure.
Ancelotti, who began his second term at Real Madrid in July 2021, has played 191 games, recording a career record of 134 wins, 30 draws and 27 losses for the club. Under his guidance, Los Merengues have won several accolades over the past three and a half years, including two La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League titles and one Copa del Rey.
