The RFU is set to announce record financial losses of £40m, which is likely to lead to increased scrutiny of chief executive Bill Sweeney.
According to whole body In England, the huge deficit is said to be one of the largest ever recorded by a British sports governing body.
This figure surpasses the £30.9 million loss it suffered in 2018, which led to the resignation of then-CEO Steve Brown.

The RFU attributed this year’s deficit to England’s World Cup campaign in France, which reduced Twickenham’s match-day revenue and significant investment not reflected in the headline loss.
Already under pressure due to England’s poor November results, Sweeney faces further challenges. Critics point to cost-cutting measures, including recent staff redundancies, despite lucrative sponsorship deals such as the £100m Allianz deal.
The RFU committee is expected to take up the issue at its meeting next week.
