Gatland said she has received support over the past few days.
“The amount of messages I’ve received over the past week has been incredible, whether it’s the number of people who have contacted me, phone calls, emails or messages through family members,” Gatland said.
“It definitely seems like there’s a bit of a gap, right? You know the ‘go or stay’ thing.
“I am grateful to those who have reached out to me and supported me, but I understand there are other opinions.”
Welsh rugby is still awaiting a strategic plan and has struggled on and off the pitch compared to Gatland’s first 12 years in charge of Wales.
“We’ve mentioned in the past that if a dam burst, it would take a while to get it reconnected, and that’s probably the case now,” Gatland said.
“For many years we felt like our success with the national team was filling the cracks underneath.
“We need to look at the future and the path and some structures to make a difference.
“I have encouraged the union on many occasions to act boldly on some of the changes we are making in the best interests of Welsh rugby.”
