The game will be played at ATCO Field in Spruce Meadows, Calgary., After Cavalry FC won against Forge FC in the qualifying semi-finals for the right to host the championship match.
CPL finals coverage will feature CBC Sports’ Andi Petrillo leading an on-field panel with analysts Gareth Wheeler and Kristian Jack, and former York United FC defender Jordan Wilson, reporting from ringside.
Hamilton’s Forge is seeking its fifth title (and third straight) in its sixth postseason appearance. Forge won the championship in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, and was runner-up in 2021. Calvary FC advanced to its first finals last year.
Both teams automatically qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the highest finish in club soccer on the North American continent, after finishing the regular season in the top two.
Forge FC coach Bobby Smyrniotis was snubbed from five previous nominations and finally won Coach of the Year honors Thursday along with his fourth Canadian Premier League title.
Cavalry FC’s Tommy Wheeldon Jr. was nominated after winning the award twice previously.
Forge FC’s Tristan Borges has been named CPL Player of the Year for the second time. Kwasi Poku, whom Forge sold to Belgian RWD Molenbeek in a league-record move last August, was named the best Canadian U-21 player.
Cavalry’s Daan Klomp won Defender of the Year honors for the second season in a row. Pacific FC’s Emil Gazdov won the Golden Glove Award as the league’s best goalkeeper. York forward Brian Wright won the Players’ Player Award.
Tobias Warschewski, the CPL’s top scorer and 2024 Player of the Year candidate, will lead the home side’s attack in the final.
The CPL currently has teams in eight cities (Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa and Halifax), but commissioner Mark Noonan said Friday in Calgary that the league plans to expand to two teams in 2026. .
