One of the ‘problems’ I expected for Chelsea at the start of this season was securing our best starting Xl while trying to fit all our best players into it. That’s not possible right now. As many other articles have highlighted, this is a good thing, but it can also be a hindrance or a problem. But it’s a good problem.
At that moment, we didn’t even get Christopher Nkunku on the pitch in a game where we were looking for a goal on Sunday. How angry are you? For me, Nkunku is the best finisher we have, one of the best attacking midfielders we have. But Cole Palmer plays his position and Nicolas Jackson deserves to start against him as our number nine. But in my opinion, it’s not even an ideal 9.
You can move Palmer back to the right and bring Nkunku into his position. But that would leave Michailo Mudric, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho all fighting for one winger spot. And I haven’t even mentioned Joao Felix.
I think the only certainty is because Jackson is our only real striker (Mark Guiu is too raw) and of course Palmer. The rest are still under discussion and not certain.
Neto has been playing well recently and I appreciate him. But Sancho has played very well in the first two games for us as well and is a very dangerous player. Mudryk has been playing better in recent games as well. Madueke has boiled over a bit and I wouldn’t start him off as the best Xl right now.
I would probably have Sancho and Neto as the wingers, Palmer as the number 10 and Jackson up top. But I really want a way to get Nkunku to start the game, but he’s not a 9, so I’m not even sure about my choice.
How big of a problem is it if a true 9 is still lacking in all of this?
