Viktor Gyokeres’ £80m is starting to look more and more like a bargain and I’m becoming more and more curious. Why haven’t they signed him yet?
Obviously, this is as tongue-in-cheek as the title suggests. I know this isn’t Football Manager and there are a lot of variables when it comes to signing new players. For example, the player may not want to move, which I believe has been the case with Kyokeresu so far.
I hope the issue that was between the player and one of our managers can be put to rest for everyone’s sake. Because for me, Gyokeres is one of our priorities when we inevitably make big moves in January or the summer.
Gyokeres is set to leave Sporting soon, and sorry to say, but it still feels like he will join Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. I know from sources that he wants to go to his next destination with Amorim, which at one point was almost identical to Chelsea.
But all the big clubs who want a new striker, even those who don’t particularly want or need one, will choose Gyokeres. Because he is that good.
I don’t hear anymore, ‘He’s playing in a trash league.’ He scored a hat-trick against reigning champions England last night and has scored 11 goals in his last 13 European games, which, incidentally, are not part of the ‘rubbish’ league. He has scored 5 goals in 4 Champions League games this season.
He also has experience of playing in England and against much stronger and more physical defenders in the Championship. That experience will be invaluable in his transition to the Premier League.
This guy scores goals for fun and is an all-round 9 that we don’t have yet. I have great respect for Nicolas Jackson, who has many of the attributes of the 9, but at least not the complete work.
23 goals scored before November is astounding in any league.
His physicality is key and goals like this, where he holds off defenders, are what we need to see from Chelsea. In other words, tormenting the centre-backs.
He is a complete striker and if Chelsea are serious, they need to go out and do everything they can to get him to Stamford Bridge as soon as physically possible. Pay the money.
Brighton sold him for £1m. I’m genuinely curious and I’m not pointing fingers, but I’m curious who signed it…
