“We’ve talked about it after every Test match. We’ve tried to back it up and I think we’re finally going to have a match here in Mumbai where it’s a completely different surface, with bat and ball, that will definitely challenge us. Yes, we will. ‘I’m really happy.” Latham said in the post-game presentation. “I think being able to adapt to each field is (the most satisfying) in itself.”
“We wanted to come out here and try to get some shots in… I definitely think we did that,” Latham said. “We tried to be a little more aggressive with the bat and a little more proactive, and again with the ball we tried to keep it simple and understand a little bit how India play. The players got involved at different times to do their best. , this was the most important thing, and I’m really happy to be here.”
“Spin bowling is about rhythm, and sometimes when you have the rhythm, it’s about making the most of it,” Ajaz said after winning the man of the match award in his native city of Mumbai. “And when the situation presents itself to you, you have to accept it and really do something for your team.”
In Mumbai, Ajaz took 5 for 103 in the first innings and 6 for 57 in the second innings. On Sunday, he annihilated most of India’s line-up from No. 3 to No. 8, and despite already dismissing Shubman, he said the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium had not changed much in the morning session of day three. Gill, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja lunch.
“After lunch, my body started to rotate a little more, which made me feel a little more confident with my throws and tricks, and probably also my aerial self,” Ajaz said. “Yeah, that’s all I tried to do – keep it simple, use my form in the air and try to stay ahead of the batsman.”
Even as wickets fell around him, Rishabh Pant continued to attack Ajaz from one end. Ajaz was thought to be “a little more outside the box”, which made Ajaz bowl much quicker to Pant compared to other Indian batsmen.
“I knew that if I threw him a good ball, he would probably hit it out of the park,” Ajaz said. “So I had to come up with a new plan and something a little different and try to get ahead of it.”
“It’s something you dream about and to come here and actually achieve that, against a world-class Indian team, is very special,” Mitchell told the host broadcaster.
“I have to trust my defense and sometimes have a clear idea of where I want to score,” Young said. “And do that for as long as possible. If I know where I’m going to score and can trust my defense, my mind is much clearer.”
But it was Mitchell who summed it up succinctly as New Zealand won the series not long after the women’s team lifted the T20 World Cup in the UAE last month.
“We’re just a bunch of New Zealanders taking on the world and we’re very proud to represent our country,” he said. “We know how good India are, they have a lot of world-class players and for us they continue to do what the New Zealanders do and we are very proud of this group today.”
