The total generating capacity of the hydroelectric power plant will increase to 120 MW in the near future with the construction of the Ordubad HPP with a capacity of 36 MW and the Tivinsk HPP with a capacity of 15.6 MW, head of the press service of the State Energy said. “As of today, the total HPP power generation capacity in Nakhchivan is 68.4 MW,” he said.
For reference, Nakhchivan AR has 5 hydroelectric power plants, 3 solar power plants, 1 wind power plant and 1 hybrid power plant in operation. As of September 2024, alternative and renewable energy sources accounted for 35% of total generated electricity. Compared to the first nine months of last year, the share of electricity generated from alternative and renewable energy sources increased by almost 20%.
Accordingly, the share of green energy generation was 35.1% in the first nine months of 2023, but the figure increased to 53% in the same period of 2024. Currently, 55% of total electricity is supplied by green energy.
