SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC defender Carter Manley has announced his retirement from professional soccer, with Saturday’s home game against Detroit City FC becoming the final game of his career.
After realizing my dream of playing professional soccer for seven years, I will hang up my boots and retire from the game, Manley said. I’d like to say a special thank you to San Antonio FC, the city, my teammates, and all the fans at Toyota Field who come out to support us every week. This club and this city have given me so much over the past three years and I will be forever grateful for all the memories I have made, the relationships I have formed and the growth I have experienced as a professional and player. person.
Manly joined San Antonio ahead of the club’s 2022 championship-winning campaign, playing a key part of the backline in 26 games helping SAFC secure their first USL Championship title. The 28-year-old has been a member of San Antonio’s player leadership group for the past two seasons. He made a total of 115 USL Championship appearances during his professional career and also spent time in MLS and USL League 1.
Always ready to score a goal at the right time, five of Manley’s six goals in his SAFC career were equalizers or game-winning goals, and he is best remembered outside of league play as the defender scored the late game winner in San Antonio’s win over the MLS side.
