WTMG’s Oliver Shellding: “Soap boxing aside, Shiro and the Coal Town is legitimately interesting and has a pretty big tail for a game of this style. There’s an awful lot to discover, and even the jokes that aren’t inherently problematic are funny. It’s easy to see that this game is worth investing in for those looking for a marathon rather than a sprint (if you know a little bit of Japanese, it’s even better), and it will be more recognizable to younger players as well. If I hadn’t played Mon, I would probably recommend it right away, but knowing that better Mousetrap already exists, picking up Shiro and Coal Town comes down to the characters and their connection to the world, which is only moderately promotional. “But if you really like the franchise, I think it’s a great presentation and interaction.”
