Netflix has closed its triple-A studio, known within the company as Team Blue.
According to Stephen Totilo’s Game File newsletter, the Southern California studio no longer exists.
Netflix has spent the last few years recruiting several veteran developers to its studio, which is said to be developing original multi-platform triple-A games.
The studio launched in October 2022 and has former Overwatch executive producer Chacko Sonny at Netflix.
Sonny joined Halo veteran Joseph Staten in April 2023. Joseph Staten worked as a writer and film director on the first two Halo games, and served as the creative head of Halo Infinite before joining the Netflix studio.
In May 2023, it was confirmed that they had hired Raf Grassetti, a former art director at Sony Santa Monica Studio who previously worked on the God of War series.
But now, according to a report from Totilo, all three have left Netflix and the studio has also closed.
Netflix has been trying to gain a foothold in the video game market for some time, and has been offering mobile games through the Netflix app for the past few years.
The company regularly features original video content based on games like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the recently released Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
However, they have struggled to find success in the opposite direction and continue to look for their first big hit game.
The closest game so far was Poinpy, a mobile game published by Devolver Digital. Created by former Nintendo developer Ojiro Fumoto, the game is a Netflix exclusive and has received widespread acclaim, with a Metacritic score of 87.
