Kamala Harris was having a beer with late-night comedian Stephen Colbert on Tuesday while Floridians were sheltering in place for mass evacuations before Hurricane Milton made landfall.
The Democratic presidential candidate, who has always displayed a preternatural ability to be tone-deaf, has offered so little confidence that he remains vaguely focused on impending natural disasters.
“I think elections are won on mood,” Colbert told his guests. “Because one of the old saws is you want someone you can have a beer with. then… Would you like to have a beer with me so I can tell people what it’s like?”
“The last time I had a beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” Harris, as he was known, responded with a chuckle.
It was unimaginably horrible.
Kamala Harris throws beer as Floridians flee hurricane.
Kamala Harris’ beer stunt is an obvious attempt to make her relatable. Even more relevant would be if she were sitting in the White House trying to take the lead in informing the public about a major hurricane heading toward Florida.
But Florida isn’t really a big deal at this point. Perhaps she just knows the electoral map, since Trump is far ahead in 538 general election polls. It was as if she wasn’t that worried about the victims of Hurricane Helen in North Carolina or Georgia.
So while she’s pouring down Miller High Life (and by pouring I mean pretending to take a sip), the residents of the Sunshine State are trying to flee to safety. And they are facing problems.
Milton, a storm monster of unprecedented size and power, is bearing down on the Tampa Bay area as we speak.
People trying to get out of the area are facing massive gas shortages, according to new reports.
Fox Business reported, “Traffic gridlock on Interstate 75 out of Tampa and Orlando has left some gas stations in the area running low on gas, leaving it unclear when new supplies will arrive.” The report is supported by Florida resident Chris Cain, who said the highways were full and he was trying to find fuel to get inland to safe ports.
CNN reported that about 1,500 Florida gas stations were running low on fuel, creating serious problems for people trying to evacuate as well as those hoping to stay behind and use generators to provide power as the storm passed.
CBS provides similar numbers, noting that a whopping 21% of Florida gas stations are depleted.
The biggest shortages appear to be inland. Gainesville and Orlando face much larger shortages than, say, Miami or Jacksonville.
On the other hand, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, “There is no fuel shortage. Fuel continues to arrive in Florida.”

She lectures Floridians about misinformation.
It’s certainly comforting to Floridians to know that Kamala Harris is on a talk show, sipping a beer and giggling like a schoolgirl as they race across the state looking for gas.
It definitely gives you confidence, right? But don’t worry. As the hurricane prepares to bring mass destruction in the Tampa area, she’s cracking down on important things with misinformation.
you’re right. Let’s hope Kamala Harris and her beer stop listening to misinformation about the government’s inadequate response to disasters, especially past hurricanes and the ongoing destruction.
“First of all, I want everyone in North Carolina and Georgia to know that FEMA field workers are here to help you and you deserve it,” she said. “There’s too much information, so please don’t listen.”
Floridians can be assured that their government will help them pick up the pieces, even if they’re having beers with their eligible Hollywood friends while trying to stay out of the hurricane’s path.
Like North Carolina, where both a NASCAR legend and a country star have tried to provide support, comfort and rescue operations to confront government failure.
