Cards Against Humanity, the company behind the intentionally unsavory party game, is offering to pay certain voters up to $100 to vote in November.
Chicago-based Cards Against Humanity is releasing an adult card game of the same name in which players fill in the gaps in sentences with words or phrases on the cards. Marketed as a “party game for terrible people,” the most shocking sentence wins the round.
The company unveiled plans Tuesday to encourage people who didn’t vote in 2020 to vote this year. The website, created by Cards Against Humanity, requests personal information and then matches it against voter data. “You wouldn’t believe how easy it is for us to get this stuff,” the company said of the information it purchased from data brokers.
Eligible voters who did not vote in 2020 will receive a payment from the gaming company as long as they:
- I apologize for not voting four years ago.
- Make a plan to vote.
- Write a comment criticizing former President Donald Trump in advance and post it on social media.
“In 2020, Trump lost Georgia by just 12,000 votes, which is far fewer than the number of non-voters we plan to reach,” Cards Against Humanity said. According to the website, 1,767 Americans have ‘apologized’ so far.
Eligible voters across the country will receive payments, but the largest amounts will go to residents of seven battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, the company said. Under the terms of the promotion, people do not need to provide proof of voting.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Card Election Pack Against Humanity
Cards Against Humanity is also offering a $7.99 election-themed card game expansion pack, the proceeds of which will be donated to the company’s super PAC called “Cards Against Humanity PAC.” The group was registered as of Aug. 5, 2024, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.
The bid to lure voters comes as America PAC, a pro-Trump super PAC funded by tech billionaire Elon Musk, urges people to sign petitions in support of the First and Second Amendments and asks supporters to vote as long as they are registered voters. This comes just days after offering $47 per person. Log in to the swing state. If re-elected, Trump will become the 47th president of the United States.
America PACs have donated more than $96 billion to the 2024 federal election so far this year, according to OpenSecrets, a nonprofit political funding tracker.
