Seattle Reign FC Press Release
Seattle, Washington. – Angel City FC beat Seattle Reign FC 1-0 at Lumen Field on Friday night thanks to MA Vignola’s lone goal in the 34th minute.
There was a tight battle between Seattle and LA in the first half, and a counterattack continued, starting with Lane’s quick restart in the 7th minute. Tziarra King was open in the box to receive the ball but was pounced on by an Angel City defender.
Then, in the 12th minute, Angel City turned the offensive end. Claire Emslie’s cross from the right flank was met by Megan Reid’s backheel near the six-yard box, which was saved by Ainsley McCammon. out.
Five minutes later, Veronica Raczko made a strong offensive build-up, digging into the backline to create space and passing the ball to Ji So-yeon on the right flank. Ji managed to cross the ball into the box to find Jordyn Huitema, but the game was abandoned when back-and-forth headers from both sides ended up in the hands of Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic.
The Reign almost scored in the 32nd minute when King lifted the ball towards the far post where Ana-Maria Crnogorčević headed the ball into the back of the net, but missed.
Angel City went ahead just two minutes later when a give-and-go between Alyssa Thompson and MA Vignola resulted in Vignola slotting the ball past Claudia Dickey and into the far post of the goal to give the visitors the lead.
The LA team almost extended their lead to two points in the 43rd minute after Emslie curled the ball into the box and allowed Katie Zelem to deflect it with her head, but it bounced off the crossbar.
LA continued to advance in the 5th minute of the second half when Thompson cut inside and curled to the far post, but Dickey made a diving save to block the goal.
Reign FC responded with Crnogorčević’s rocket from inside the box in the 54th minute, but Haracic saved.
Then, in the 80th minute, Huitema’s through ball in the top of the 18th gave Crnogorčević space to attempt a shot inside the box, but Sarah Gordon cleared the ball from there for a Reign corner.
With a total of nine corner kicks and multiple attacking opportunities over the course of play, Reign FC had the potential to reduce the deficit, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win or draw against the Southern California visitors.
