The new era in sports is a blessing because athletes have easy access to social media and love to dive into some old-fashioned trolling.
There’s no hiding the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs need a wide receiver after losing Rashee Rice to what is believed to be a serious knee injury. Looking around the league, the Miami Dolphins may appear to be a team ready to sell some assets as they reel in the AFC East without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Insert Tyreek Hill trade rumors.
On Wednesday, Hill downplayed trade rumors as Miami opens the 2024 campaign 1-3.
“I’m focused on the here and now,” Hill told reporters. “We have a beautiful team here and I want to be a part of it.”
However, following these comments, Hill further stirred the pot via social media, deleting a meme that sent social media into a frenzy for hours.
Later he posted how much he loved trolling us all.
It’s undeniable that the Cheetahs’ production has declined significantly since losing Tagovailoa to a scary concussion that placed him on injured reserve.
Skylar Thompson has been very ineffective in her two starts for the Dolphins. With Tyler Huntley at quarterback against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football, Hill caught four passes for just 23 yards. He was emotional on the sideline and it was caught on camera. To the naked eye, he seemed like a player who wouldn’t mind being traded.
“I wouldn’t refer to it as yelling. That’s what motivates my team,” Hill explained of the viral video.
At this point, we have to take Hill at his word. While many experts would like to see a trade request from the Chiefs, he seems to genuinely enjoy Miami despite his lack of production. And there’s a reason for that.
He’s making less than $30 million this year to suit up for the Fins. In Florida, you don’t even pay state income tax on it.
It’s fun to imagine what a reunion with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid would look like in Kansas City. Especially when they need it most. The Chiefs are 4-0, but their offense doesn’t seem right. Especially with the ongoing injuries.
Mahomes and Hill made sweet, soulful music together. Flashbacks of Hill running into the end zone, throwing a deuce, and immediately performing a backflip replay in the minds of NFL fans around the world. Acquiring Hill via trade would be like buying a fast pass to a third straight Super Bowl win at an amusement park.
But now might be the time to move on from those memories.
The Dolphins won’t eat a penny of that contract. Coach Mike McDaniel likes the combination of a healthy Tagovailoa, who is expected to return soon, and a speedy Hill. Needless to say, it would be difficult to find an AFC team willing to help Reid and the Chiefs hoist their third straight Lombardi Trophy.
