The Pokémon Company has announced the winners of the Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest 2024.
The contest saw thousands of entrants submit fan art of their favorite Pokémon, and the winner will receive $5,000. The winner will also see their artwork printed on an official Pokémon card.
Winner Kazuki Minami said, “I am truly honored to receive this award. This was my first time participating in this contest, so I didn’t know what to draw or how to draw it.
“At that time, my dog caught my eye because he was cute. I was inspired to draw Pikachu in a way that reminded me of my dog. So the award goes to my dog, and we are both very happy and honored. Thank you.”
Artist Acorbiat won the “Best Standard Card Illustration” category for his illustration of the Feraligatr.
“I am truly honored to receive this award,” Acorviart said.
“Pelrigator is usually a very ferocious Pokémon, but I wanted to portray a calm moment, as if it were enjoying a morning swim and watching the sunlight reflect off the water.
“To capture this feeling, I drew stylistic inspiration from my love of linocut and lithograph printing. I’m thrilled to be working with so many other skilled artists contributing to Pokémon.”
Earlier this year, The Pokémon Company disqualified several entrants to the Pokémon TCG illustration contest for using AI.
