Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump met for the first time ever at a 9/11 memorial service at the World Trade Center in New York City, less than 12 hours after meeting each other.
After Tuesday night’s fiercely contested televised debate, the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates were photographed shaking hands at a ceremony.
The two men had never met in person before the debate, largely because Trump avoided President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.
Harris attended an event in New York City with Biden on Wednesday, and the two are scheduled to attend events in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon to honor all three sites where planes crashed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Trump was joined in New York by his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, who is scheduled to attend an event at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.
Harris and Trump faced off Tuesday night for the first and likely final presidential debate before November’s election.
During the debate, Harris trolled her opponent for the size of his rally crowds and his 2020 election loss, while Trump spouted bizarre and racist lies about Haitian immigrants eating American cats and dogs.
