September 9, Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $30 million grant to strengthen maternal and child health care services in Tajikistan, Trend reports.
According to the bank, the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Care grant will support the construction of a 40-bed maternity hospital in Aini, an 80-bed maternity hospital in Dangara, and a 100-bed Central District Hospital in Darboz. The hospitals will feature climate-friendly features such as energy-efficient medical, heating, and cooling technologies.
The project will also pilot case-based financing to strengthen the management and training of health care workers, improve tools and procedures for antenatal services, and make the hospital’s funding mechanisms more efficient.
Earlier, the ADB approved a $17.5 million grant to help improve agricultural skills and food security for Tajik women.
The Resilient Livelihoods and Empowerment of Rural Women project aims to improve the productivity of women-led farms, strengthen agricultural processing and storage facilities, and enhance support for vulnerable women in Boktar, Parkor, Kulob, Pianji, Shahritus and Bose districts of Khatlon Governorate.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. ADB has provided more than $2.6 billion in total assistance, including more than $2 billion in grants, across a wide range of sectors, from strategic road and energy infrastructure to health, education, agriculture, urban development, public sector management, and finance.
