Today, Sony gave us the first look at what it has planned to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, and it looks like the PS5 Pro will be part of the party. Hidden in the marketing material is an image of a rumored upgrade to the current-gen PS5 console. Zoom in between the “S” in the PlayStation logo and the “3” in 30th Anniversary, and you’ll see a console that looks nothing like any PlayStation product from the past or present, but rather like the PS5.
This is obviously not an official announcement or confirmation of the PS5 Pro, so there’s no hard news yet on the new hardware. But it’s hard to ignore how similar the silhouette of the bulky console is to the PS5 Pro renders that leaked in late August. The larger size and three lines running across the body of both images look very similar.
If you want to go really deep down the rabbit hole, PlayStation’s actual 30th anniversary is December 3rd. It seems like the perfect day to start selling a powerful new console. That date also lines up perfectly with rumors that circulated earlier this year that a PS5 Pro version would be released in time for holiday shopping.
In addition to the PS5 Pro speculation, Sony has also shared some official news about how it plans to celebrate the Big 3-0: Between October and January, the company will make some of its games’ digital soundtracks available on Spotify for the first time. god of war, god of war 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, twisted metal, Starhawk and Unit 13. There will also be a special event for players new to the Gran Turismo franchise, as well as a cute collection of toys called Shapes of Play, inspired by the colours and shapes of PlayStation consoles. And there will be a small stage in the upcoming Hub area for 30th anniversary photo ops. AstrobotI think it’s really cool.
