In what has been dubbed a “miracle” in Virginia, a van narrowly avoids an oncoming train.
Bob Brown’s close-up video of the encounter in South Boston shows a van with a Pepsi logo speeding across the tracks just before the train passes.
“It’s a miracle he survived,” Brown told The Gazette-Virginian, which reported that the driver, identified as 53-year-old Tommy Cobbs of Danville, was uninjured.
The newspaper added that Cobbs was later charged with failing to follow signs and markings, citing Virginia State Police.
A car crashed into an Arizona home as a couple sat down to have dinner.
The footage, filmed on July 13, begins with the van slamming on its brakes as it drives towards a lowered railroad crossing gate.
But the van barreled through the door and stopped right on the tracks. A train could be seen approaching in the distance, its horn blaring.
The driver appears to back up and knock on the gate a second time before the vehicle starts moving forward again.

Just before the train appears to hit the van, it accelerates rapidly, allowing the vehicle to move safely to the other side of the tracks.
Eventually, the train stops immediately after the incident.
The incident caused about $2,000 in damage to the crosswalk gate, according to The Gazette-Virginian.

“Given the speed of the train and the speed of the van, we thought we would see crumpled metal or worse, but he made it,” Brown said.
