Bangladesh won the first Test match by 10 wickets.
A century from Riton Das (138) and a seventh-wicket partnership of 165 with Mehidy Hasan Miraj (78) destroyed Pakistan’s 6-90 effort from Khurram Shahzad, and the visitors were bowled out for 262 against Pakistan’s first-innings total of 274.
Bangladesh pacers Hasan Mahmood (5 off 43) and Naheed Rana (4 off 44) inspired Pakistan’s second innings with some fast bowling on a green-topped track, leaving the home team out for 172, leaving the visitors with 185 to win.
At stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh were 43 runs without conceding, thanks to opener Zakir Hasan’s aggressive 33 runs from 23 balls. His partner Shadman Islam was on 9 runs when stumps were drawn.
The home team’s pointless show left the former Pakistan batsman feeling. Ahmed Shahzad Get furious.
“Bangladesh bowlers have surprised Pakistan batsmen yet again (Bangladesh bowlers have surprised Pakistan batsmen yet again),” Shahzad is heard saying in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). “We are looking at the T20 shot selection. In shots where they are out, the bat is too far from the body. Coaches ask about such shots in T20 and T10 cricket too.”
All-rounder Agha Salman was Pakistan’s top scorer with 47 runs in the second innings, while opener Syme Ayub’s 58 runs in the first innings were Pakistan’s top scorers.
“Aap apni galtiyon se seekh hi nahi rahe hain (You don’t learn from your mistakes). You don’t have that charm anymore. Hum log galti kar rahe hain aapse ummeedein laga ke (We are making mistakes while pinning our hopes on you) or the reason fans make such mistakes is because you are playing with their emotions in that way,” Shahzad continued.
“Bangladesh came and made history by beating you in the first Test and dominating you in the second. It was not a coincidence. When you lose to Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Ireland, these things are not coincidences. It is the reality in Pakistan and you have reached this stage.”
Shahzad added: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must also take equal responsibility for the rapid decline in team performance and stop using distracting tactics.
“I don’t just blame the players, the PCB is also responsible for this (downfall) because some things were right in front of us. There were decisions we had to make, but we did the same old thing of saying something on TV and trying to divert people’s attention,” the former batsman said.
“Then we thought we could beat Bangladesh easily. And when we beat them, the anger of the people will subside. So we will start the Pakistan Cup in the meantime.”
“All this stuff you’ve done has backfired on you.”
