The Green Bay Packers have signed a new backup quarterback to succeed Jordan Love.
According to multiple reports, the Packers have traded a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Malik Willis.
Willis, the Titans’ third-round pick in 2022, gives the Packers a backup quarterback with NFL experience. He’s appeared in 11 games for the Titans over his first two NFL seasons, but his three starts all came as a rookie in 2022. Willis has a career completion percentage of 53.0% with 350 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions. He’s also rushed 32 times for 144 yards and a touchdown.
Willis was considered one of the weaker quarterback talents in the 2022 draft class after a stellar final season at Liberty. But he fell to the third round, and after an uneven rookie season, he was essentially phased out of the Titans’ quarterback plans when the team drafted Will Reavis in the top second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Previously, the Packers had second-year quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt on their depth chart behind Love. Neither second-year quarterback has ever played in a competitive game in the NFL.
The Packers open their season next Friday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, against the Philadelphia Eagles.
