On Monday evening, Fabrizio Romano revealed the bombshell news that Liverpool had made an approach to sign Federico Chiesa in the final week of the summer transfer window.
There has been interest in potential signings in recent weeks, including a centre-back, a defensive midfielder and Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the Reds could consider a last-ditch effort to bolster Arne Slot’s attack.
According to The Athletic, Anfield sources have revealed that the club’s interest in the 26-year-old is ‘exploratory’ but the relative ease of signing him could make him more appealing to Richard Hughes and his colleagues.
The report claims Juventus value Chiesa at just €15m (£12.7m) with just one year remaining on his contract with Torino – a whopping €50m (£42.3m) compared to the fee they paid for him from Fiorentina.

Since news of Romano’s transfer broke a few hours ago, countless Liverpool fans have naturally taken to social media to voice their opinions on the possibility of his transfer.
Some supporters have raised legitimate concerns about Chiesa’s injury record (he has missed 17 games in the last three years) and feel there is a greater need to strengthen the squad elsewhere rather than adding to the five quality attackers they already have.

However, the Italian could add a much-needed boost to the right wing, where there is little backup for Mohamed Salah, and Juventus’ asking price is ridiculously low considering the context.
Liverpool recently sold Fabio Carvalho to Brentford for £27.5m, with the youngster having scored just three goals in 21 appearances for the Reds. With that in mind, paying less than half that amount for a striker who has scored 47 goals in 235 Serie A appearances is very good value.
It may be a little late for Liverpool to complete a move for Chiesa if their interest remains merely ‘exploratory’ with four days left until the deadline.
However, it seems that this is precisely the opportunism that Merseysiders have become famous for in the markets in recent years, so we can’t completely rule it out just yet!
