Supplies of the 6th-generation iPad mini are reportedly dwindling at “many” Apple stores, signaling that a new model could be on the way. BloombergMark Gurman.
In a tweet, Gurman said that the iPad mini has been “constrained” internally at Apple, which could be a sign that a refresh is coming. The 6th-generation iPad mini was originally released in September 2021, making it nearly three years old at this point.
Apple is rumored to be working on a seventh-generation iPad mini, which could be released this year. The next iPad mini is expected to feature an A17 Pro or later chip with Apple Intelligence support, as well as updated front and rear cameras. It could also include updates like Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, which Apple has updated across its product lineup.
Apple today announced that it plans to hold a fall iPhone-focused event on September 9 to introduce the iPhone 16 models, new Apple Watch models, and new AirPods. It’s unclear if Apple will refresh the iPad mini at that time, but Apple could hold a second fall event or announce a new version.
We’re still expecting several M4 Macs this year, so a second announcement is likely. Apple is rumored to be planning to refresh the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac with the M4 chip, so an iPad with a similar A-series chip would fit in well with such an announcement.
Apple updated the iPad Pro models with the M4 chip earlier this year and released two versions of the iPad Air with the M2 chip.
