According to Apple insiders, the iPad mini is “limited,” suggesting the aging device could finally get a refresh in the fall, perhaps with Apple Intelligence support.
The wait for the rumored iPad mini 7 may finally be over, as stocks of the current model are dwindling. According to Mark Gurman’s post, Apple sources explain that the tablet is under pressure, which leads him to believe that a possible refresh is coming.
While many Apple stores are running low on stock for several configurations of the iPad mini, internally at Apple the device is reportedly considered “limited.” This could be a sign that a new model is on the way. It hasn’t been updated since 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one updated for AI.

The iPad mini 7 is likely to see few external upgrades, as it already fits the modern design layout. The front-facing camera and Face ID sensor could move, but it’s unclear if Apple would make such a move on a smaller tablet that’s primarily meant to be held in the hand.
With the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil with USB-C now available (check price), it’s likely Apple will continue to phase out the Apple Pencil 2, which further suggests the sensor could move to landscape orientation.
Consumer demand for improved displays could be addressed by ProMotion. Higher refresh rates can help reduce jelly scrolling, but physics can’t eliminate it entirely.
If Apple intends to support Apple Intelligence on the iPad mini 7, it would likely require an A17 Pro or M-series processor. The current processor is an A15, so either would provide a significant processing upgrade for the small tablet.
The timing of these product announcements is unpredictable. Apple could unveil them at the Glowtime Apple event on September 9, or they could be announced later in the fall with a fall event or press release. In the meantime, check out the latest iPad mini 6 prices to get the best deals.
