The eSports World Cup Foundation has confirmed that this monumental competitive event will return in 2025. This was almost inevitable following the huge success of this first iteration, which laid the foundation for an annual series. We met with Ralph Reichert, CEO of the eSports World Cup Foundation, who suggested that this will become an annual event.
Big things are coming
Saudi Arabia plans to welcome esports and the gaming industry as it develops a ‘city’ to accommodate these mega-tournaments. There is a strong desire to bring publishers and developers to Riyadh, as well as establish or host esports organizations that want to make the region their home.
This is all part of the mission to make Saudi Arabia a leading player in this industry by 2030.
When we interviewed CEO Ralf Reichert last month, here’s what he had to say:
During the planning process, we discussed all the formats for an eSports World Cup, but while we were inspired by the best international sporting events, we felt that the EWC would be best as an annual event, as the video game world and the digital age in general operate on an accelerated timeline compared to other events.
We want to build the best platform to honor the best esports clubs each year and create a prestigious moment that players and fans want to attend. While no format has been finalized, we are happy with the way the EWC is currently unfolding.
The eSports World Cup will be back in July and August 2025, and fans are eager to see how it will be bigger and better than the first event. This year’s EWC featured a prize pool of $60 million, a spectacular trophy system, and the grandest stage and ceremony in eSports.
It will be hard to surpass this achievement next year, but the eSports World Cup Foundation wants to try.
Now that this year’s event has come to a close, we can look back and reminisce about the good times. What was your favorite game from this year’s EWC?
