The PCB has confirmed that New Zealand will play five T20Is in Pakistan in April. The visiting team will arrive in Islamabad on April 14 and play three matches in Rawalpindi from April 18 to 21, followed by two more matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on April 25 and 27.
As in April, this series will be against the Indian Premier League (IPL), meaning that several of New Zealand’s key T20 cricketers are likely to be unavailable. Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, Trent Boult, Glenn Phillips and Lockie Ferguson are all under contract to IPL teams this season.
This will be New Zealand’s final international match ahead of the T20 World Cup in June, while Pakistan will play the first five of the 12 T20I tournaments ahead of the event.
“As a testament to the enduring camaraderie between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC), we are delighted to announce the dates of the New Zealand men’s team tour to Pakistan in 2024,” said Usman Wala, PCB’s head of international cricket. “This tour symbolises the deep bond and mutual respect that defines the relationship between the two cricketing nations.
“Our avid cricket fans and the people of Pakistan will be delighted to welcome Team New Zealand back and look forward to hosting another competitive series which will form a vital part of our preparations for this year’s ICC T20 World Cup.”
The series is being played right after the holy Ramadan and Eid holidays, meaning the matches will start at the usual time of 7pm local time. The last few matches of the PSL had to start late due to Ramadan, which was at 9pm.
