Meredith played white-ball cricket for Somerset during the English season. He took 14 wickets at 22.78 in the T20 Blast and six wickets in three One-Day Cup matches, including four for 27 against Middlesex at Lord’s, which Somerset reached the final. He took eight T20I wickets after playing against New Zealand and West Indies three years ago.
The pace attack for the Scotland series will feature Meredith, Xavier Bartlett, Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis alongside all-rounders Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Marcus Stoinis and potentially captain Mitchell Marsh. Adam Zampa and unknown Cooper Connolly will provide the spin.
Hazelwood was the only one of Australia’s big three quicks to be included for the first time in a full tour of England. Mitchell Starc is set to play in the ODIs against England, while Pat Cummins is set to sit out the full tour as he focuses on strength and conditioning ahead of the home summer.
“The priority right now is to work hard in the gym and reassess the way forward in a few weeks,” Cummins said last week. “I’m trying to fill my bucket again after bowling non-stop for two years. (Hopefully) I’ll be in as good a position for the first Test (against India) as I’ve been in the last few years.”
Australia head to Scotland on Monday ahead of the first T20I in Edinburgh on September 4.
