Louis Rees-Zammit has been one of the most notable figures in international rugby in recent years.
His rapid rise to prominence after joining the Wales squad as a teenager led Warren Gatland to select the winger in the squad for the British & Irish Lions 2021 tour. He was the youngest member of the squad that travelled to South Africa.
He was one of the talented wingers playing domestically for Gloucester. However, in 2024, he decided to step away from rugby to pursue a career in the NFL. Rees-Zammit signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2024. He made his team debut in August in a preseason match against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium.
The Chiefs lost 26-13 to the Jaguars. Rees-Zammit played multiple positions in the game, competing as a running back, kicker and kick returner. He also participated as a member of the punt coverage team. Overall, he ran for four yards on three touches and made one solo special teams tackle.
Rees-Zammit was expected to miss the next preseason game due to a back injury. However, he went on to make his home debut, playing against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium. Rees-Zammit was once again used in a variety of roles, adding to the role he competed for in the game against the Jaguars. He handled kickoffs and helped the punt return team. The Chiefs lost the game 24-23.

The star will be hoping his on-field performance earns him a spot on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster. After the preseason ends on August 23, the team will trim its roster from 90 to 53 players, who will be the stars competing for the team in 2024. Of those 53, 48 will be designated for game-day assignment.
There have been reports that Rees-Zammit has been working out to join the team. He is also said to be actively learning the Chiefs playbook. Rees-Zammit himself said he works on the playbook for two hours after practice.
“I feel very comfortable with the playbook,” he said. “I’ve made a lot of adjustments and learned a lot and I’m pretty comfortable with it. I just need to get as many reps as I can and show people what I can do. Hopefully, with one more preseason game, I can do that.”

1. Louis Rees-Jammitt was born on February 2, 2001 in Penarth, Glamorgan Valley. He is now 6ft 2ins (1.88m) tall and weighs just 14st 9lbs (95kg). His surname comes from Maltese descent.
2. Roald Dahl was another famous alumnus of Llandaff Cathedral School, which Rhys-Zammit attended.
3. He didn’t decide on a wing position in rugby until he went to Hartpury College, playing halfback and centre throughout his school years.
4. At 18 years and 70 days, Rees-Jammit is the youngest Gloucester player to feature in a Gallagher Premiership match, coming on as a substitute with four minutes remaining in the side’s 27-23 win over West Country rivals Bath.
5. On 28 December 2019, he became the youngest player to score a Premiership hat-trick when he scored three tries for Gloucester against Northampton Saints at Franklin Gardens.

6. International honours came in the autumn of 2020. He made his debut as a substitute in Wales’ 38-21 loss to France, and scored his first Test try against Georgia a month later.

8. Rees-Jammit represented Wales at the 2023 Rugby World Cup but the team were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
