The Plucky Squire was originally announced two years ago and is finally set to release in September 2024. It will be released on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch and PC, but there’s a small catch: the developers announced today that the physical version of The Plucky Squire will not be available at launch and will be released at a later date.
The Plucky Squire physical edition release delayed
The Plucky Squire will be released on September 17, 2024 for PC, Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and Nintendo Switch, but will be a digital release only. All Possible Futures announced on Twitter today that while they would like to release a physical version at launch, they are still working on it and need more time.
No further details were provided, but at least we know that the format won’t be skipped entirely. Physical collectors will have to wait at least a few months.
Devolver Digital titles typically take a while to get to a physical release. This year, Ahr Ech’s 2D action platformer Pepper Grinder has yet to be released in a physical format, with a release date set for October 2024. That’s almost six months after its March 2024 release, and we expect The Plucky Squire to follow a similar timeline.
The developers confirmed in the release announcement that The Plucky Squire will take around 8-10 hours to complete on an initial playthrough, which is significantly longer than originally planned for the title. It’s also slightly longer than other titles published by Devolver Digital.
It’s an ambitious title, and expectations are high. It’s also coming to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription services from day one, which is another thing Devolver Digitals is known for. At least at launch.
