Former President Donald Trump shared on social media late Friday that he had reached an agreement with Fox News to participate in the September 4 debate with Kamala Harris, but the vice president implied that he would not have approved of such a confrontation.
“If for any reason Kamala is unable or unavailable to participate in the debate that day, I have agreed to hold a large town hall on the evening of September 4th, similar to what we have on Fox,” the Republican candidate wrote in a since-deleted post on her Truth Social platform.
President Trump had been adamant about holding the next debate on FOX News instead of the in-person debate hosted by ABC News scheduled for September 10, but later reiterated his debate plans without mentioning a town hall-style event.
Harris told an Atlanta crowd on Tuesday that she hoped Trump would reconsider meeting her on the debate stage at the time.
“As the saying goes, ‘If you have something to say, say it to my face,’” Harris said on the campaign trail.
