At the last Robotics Meetup in Nuremberg, an important update to the humanoid robot pib was announced. A new version is scheduled for release in August.
Changes from last year’s version:
• Sleek design: The upper body has been designed to be more stylish, with hidden screws and motors and no loose cables.
• Easier assembly: The new version offers easier assembly.
• Enhanced Engine: Now it has a more powerful motor mounted on its shoulder.
• Enhanced mimicry features: Previously, pib could only follow horizontal movements. In the updated version, it can now track vertical movements as well.
• Upgraded electronics: The electronics have been upgraded to a Raspberry Pi 5.
• Dockerization: pib is now dockable and installable on a variety of software systems, which has been a community success, especially during recent hackathons.
• Digital Twin: A digital twin has been developed that enables simulation and machine learning.
Continuity and Compatibility
Not everything has changed. The camera and display remain the same, and we’ve taken care to maintain compatibility with previous versions. Updated tutorials are available to help you assemble it easily.
This meetup featured a guest speaker from EduArt Robotics who introduced the EduArt robot. After the presentation and discussion, attendees had the opportunity to share ideas with other robotics enthusiasts while enjoying pizza and drinks.
