Chrissy Teigen has revealed some important news about the health of her son Miles with husband John Legend.
On Wednesday, the “Cravings” author revealed via Instagram that her 6-year-old has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
Teigan decided to share Miles’ diagnosis after fans noticed the monitor on Miles’ arm in a recent family photo from the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the photo, Miles was wearing a yellow shirt that showed an insulin pump on his arm.
“Miles raised his arms and so many of you said the most beautiful and amazing things I’ve ever seen on this platform. You noticed his Type 1 diabetes monitor and sent him so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I’m so touched and continue to be touched by the kindness of this community,” she wrote.
She explained that Miles was diagnosed after he was hospitalized with a severe Shigella infection, during which time doctors noticed irregularities in his blood tests, which led to the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes.
“After more testing, we’ve learned that he’s in the ‘honeymoon period’ of T1 for the rest of his life,” Teigen said. “Last night we gave him his first insulin shot, and that’s it! It’s a different and new world for us, and we’re definitely learning a lot at the moment.”
Teigan also expressed gratitude for the book “Year 1 Type 1,” which has been a valuable resource for the family. The support and shared experiences of others have been a great comfort to Miles, reassuring him that he is not alone in this journey.
“I wanted to write this to express my sincere gratitude for your kindness. It has been a great help to Miles to know that many others are going through the same thing, and that he is not alone.”
In addition to Miles, Teigen and her husband John Legend, 45, share three other children: Luna, 8, Len Alexander, 13 months, and Estee Maxine, 18 months.
