South African speedster Takir Abrahams will be “outstanding” for Irish giants Munster next season, manager Graham Rowntree says.
Abrahams joined Lyon last season but only played 12 of the maximum 32 games he could have played for a top-14 team.
Despite not having the best season for France, the former Junior Springbok has been compared to two-time World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe for his ability to play as a winger and full-back.
At 25, he is set to enter his prime years, netting five goals for Sharks in the 2022-23 URC season, followed by six for Lyon.

“We’ve done some research into him,” said Rowntree. “He’s a bit of a left-wing signing but he’s not for us. Ian Costello, our head of rugby operations, and Philip Quinn, our chief operating officer, have done extensive research.”
Rowntree stressed the importance of finding a quality outside-back who can integrate seamlessly into the team. “We were looking for a quality back three, but we were also focused on his ability to settle into Limerick and fit into the team.
“We’ve even spoken to his school rugby coach and other people who have worked with him and I think he’ll be great for us.”
