Rapper Snoop Dogg will bring a special touch to the final leg of the Olympic torch journey in France, as he parades the torch through Paris ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.
The mayor of Saint-Denis, Mathieu Hanoutin, made the announcement Tuesday morning on X. The mayor said in French that Snoop Dogg would carry the torch down the Rue de Saint-Denis before the start of the 33rd edition of the event.
Saint-Denis, a northern suburb of Paris, is the final stop before the Olympic flame is carried to the Eiffel Tower to light the cauldron.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., is already known for his cheerful personality, celebrated the announcement on social media by posting a screenshot of a news article promoting his involvement.
“Must do this!!” Snoop Dogg wrote in an emoji-filled Instagram caption. “Want to see??”
On Monday, Snoop Dogg shared a photo of himself posing outside Paris’ city hall, the Hôtel de Ville, with the caption, “U Ready? Paris 2024 Olympics ya digggg.”
French actress Leticia Casta and French rapper MC Solar are also scheduled to attend the torch-bearing event on Friday.

Officials have yet to announce the name of the final torchbearer for the Paris Olympics, who will have the honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron on the Seine River to kick off the Games on Friday night.
Traditionally, the torch was first lit in April at the site of ancient Olympia. According to the International Olympic Committee, the flame has been “a symbol of peace and friendship between nations since ancient times.”
The flame is always lit by a sunbeam caught in the center of a parabolic mirror, “ensuring its purity.” Each runner carrying the flame, including Snoop Dogg, carries a symbolic message of peace along the journey.
As the world watches Snoop Dogg perform his 67th show this week, we hope the rapper will be one not to miss. It’s hot like a drop.
Snoop Dogg’s Olympic run isn’t over after he passes the torch. The rapper is already set to serve as NBC’s special Olympic correspondent for the Games.
The 33rd Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
