A Maine police officer is recovering after being rear-ended by another vehicle during a highway traffic stop Saturday night, authorities said.
Patrick Flanagan’s patrol car spun around and struck the vehicle he had stopped. Flanagan and two other drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Maine State Police said in a news release.
Police said Flanagan’s patrol car was southbound on the Main Turnpike in Biddeford with its emergency lights activated when it was struck.
Flanagan and the 25-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck his vehicle were taken to the hospital. The driver was issued a summons.
Police said they were investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
According to a police report, this is the third incident in which a vehicle has crashed into a state police patrol vehicle within 48 hours.
The other two crashes occurred in Gardiner and Gouldsboro, CBS affiliate WGME reported. There were no injuries in either crash.
