Gregor Townsend is challenging Scotland to end their summer tour of the Americas with a win next weekend.
Scotland followed up wins over Canada and the United States with an eight-try 52-11 win over Chile in Santiago on Saturday night. Kyle Lowe and Jamie Dobbie both hit doubles, while Josh Bayless, Matt Curry, Dylan Richardson and Kyle Stein also got whitewashed.
Townsend’s side conclude their tour with a game against Uruguay in Montevideo on Saturday, but as the match falls outside of a designated Test period, the manager can only select a squad made up of Scottish players.
“It will be a new challenge. None of us have been to Uruguay before,” he said. “They were very good at the World Cup. They were really impressive against France and pushed Italy close.
“They’ve played a few games (this month), they’ve played France and Argentina. They’re battle-hardened, they’ll have a united team, and we’ll have a new team.
“We have had a lot of players leave to return home but the group that still remains here are looking forward to playing against Uruguay and really ending the tour and season on a high.”
Townsend gave Edinburgh hooker Patrick Harrison his first international cap after he was brought on as a 47th-minute substitute in Santiago after making a number of debuts early in the tour.
“I’m really happy for Patrick,” he said. “He’s had to wait three weeks to play but he’s trained really well and has shown quite a bit in training that he’s been doing well. Really accurate lineouts, strong maul carries, really good energy in attack and defence.”
