On Monday, a fully playable development build of Space Marine 2 was leaked online. Now, just 24 hours later, Focus Entertainment has released a statement on the matter.
The studio said it was saddened by what happened and hoped players would never have to play something that should never have been released. In addition, the uploaded build was almost a year old and does not at all reflect the final product that will be released on September 9.
Focus said they were “deeply touched by the incredible support we’ve received from the community since the previous build of their upcoming game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, was leaked.”
“Our team has put years of hard work, passion, and dedication into creating a game that lives up to your hopes and expectations, and it’s disappointing that so many of the surprises we’ve worked hard to keep secret have been ruined. It’s also sad that this build, which will be nearly a year away from launch, is how some of our most passionate fans will first experience Space Marine 2.
“Our unwavering commitment has been to provide the best game possible for our players. This is what drove our decision to invest more time in development and deliver the best experience possible.
We ask everyone to avoid this unfinished build and not ruin the game for those who want to experience it for the first time at launch. Space Marine 2 launches on September 9th, and the best way to support the hard work of our team is to play the game as they always intended.”
