Washington – Republicans across the country returned to Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum on Tuesday for the second day of the GOP convention, a busy opening day that saw former President Donald Trump formally nominate himself, his much-anticipated running mate announced, and the former president’s first public appearance since receiving a life-threatening injury over the weekend.
Delegates gathered at the Fiserv Forum Monday afternoon, and the GOP adopted it. 16 page platformThis was largely influenced by the former president. After the delegates officially nominated Trump as the Republican nominee for president, they nominated Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as their vice presidential candidate. Trump first announced Vance as his running mate in a social media post, calling him “the best person” for the job and touting his education, military service, and business record.
Several prominent Republican lawmakers, candidates and officials spoke on the first day of the convention, including Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Katie Britt of Alabama, Tim Scott of South Carolina, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Sen. Wesley Hunt of Texas, Sen. John James of Michigan and Byron Donald of Florida. What’s on the agenda?
Each day of the convention will feature a theme that leverages Trump’s “Make America Great Again” tagline. Monday’s theme is “Make America Wealthy Once Again,” while Tuesday’s theme is “Make America Safe Once Again.”
The topic is a reference to what the Trump campaign calls the Biden administration’s “soft on crime” policies, which the Trump campaign argues have created a “dystopian nightmare” in America’s cities and communities that Trump plans to fix.
The first official session of the day begins at 5 p.m. Central Time or 6 p.m. Eastern Time. For a detailed schedule of events, see the master calendar on the RNC website.
