North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.Y.) was ridiculed on social media Monday after saying he would not seek a third term if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in November.
“What would you have done if you were in his shoes?” McCallum asked Burgum.
Rather than answer her question, the governor dismissed it as “hypothetical” and said such a scenario would “never happen (again).”
His reasoning was based on the assumption that Trump would follow basic norms and rules, such as the 22nd Amendment.
“If President Trump wins and serves out his four-year term, it will never be on the ballot again,” Burg said. The governor then suggested that the “real question” is whether Vice President Kamala Harris will follow the election certification rules.

Many on social media thought Burgham’s assertion that Trump would not seek more than a second term was a bit false.
