Washington — Indiana Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz has been charged with weapons violations in connection with an incident at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
Washington Metropolitan Airport officials confirmed Spartz was charged on Friday.
The Transportation Security Administration has not confirmed Spartz’s involvement, but last week said police “discovered a .380-caliber firearm during a passenger security screening.” According to the TSA, the firearm “had an unloaded magazine and was in the individual’s carry-on baggage.”
Spartz’s office did not immediately respond to CBS News’ request for comment.
It is a misdemeanor to “possess or transport” a firearm in a Virginia airport terminal.
Spartz defeated eight Republican challengers. To win her primary In May, she, who was first elected in 2020, announced she would not seek reelection until 2023, when she reversed her decision.
