UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan was suspended and fined Tuesday for punching a fan during his exit from UFC 300 in April. However, the suspension is not expected to affect his eligibility to fight for the UFC title later this year.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Tsarukyan, 22-3, for nine months for the altercation, but that will be reduced to six months if Tsarukyan participates in an anti-bullying public service announcement. This means Tsarukyan could fight until October 12. Tsarukyan, who defeated Charles Oliveira in a number one contender’s matchup at UFC 300, will likely face lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in Abu Dhabi in late October. Tsarukyan was also fined $25,000.
“Arman appreciates the NSAC’s dealings on this matter and looks forward to working with the UFC and NSAC to produce an anti-bullying PSA to reduce suspensions and put him in contention for the UFC lightweight title,” said Daniel, Tsarukyan’s manager. Rubenstein said in a released statement.
Armenia’s Tsarukyan threw a punch after a fan pointed his middle finger. The punch was broadcast live on the UFC broadcast.
Tsarukyan, 27, beat Oliveira by split decision. He faced no legal repercussions for the punch.
