Monica Crowley, a former Fox News and former Trump administration Treasury official, showed some love to Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.) on Friday while pushing a bizarre conspiracy theory that seemed straight out of Red Scare.
“By the way, Senator Joe McCarthy was right,” Crowley said at a Faith & Freedom Coalition meeting in Washington.
“And he tried to ring a bell about communist infiltration of our government in the 1950s and the same deep state that is currently going after Donald Trump.”
Crowley, who was chosen by former President Donald Trump for a National Security Council role before withdrawing from the candidacy over a plagiarism scandal, furthered the conspiracy, claiming a ‘deep state’ network also ‘eliminated’ Richard Nixon and went after Ronald Reagan. I did.
“The deep state has become so insidious that it smeared and attacked Joe McCarthy in the 1950s for speaking the truth about godless communism in the halls of our government,” said Crowley, who has previously promoted several conspiracy theories involving Obama.
Her “deep state” theories come decades after McCarthy famously claimed there were communists and Soviet spies in the federal government.
The Senate later voted 67 to 22 to convict him in 1957, less than three years before his death.
Crowley went on to tell the D.C. crowd that “communists” are “controlling every aspect of American life and culture.”
“They called it ‘the long march through the institutions,’” she argued.
“And now they’ve been successful because they’ve been doing it for so long.”
Earlier this year, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon declared he was “sure” Crowley would be on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s shortlist to be national security adviser for a potential second term in the White House.
