Cary, N.C. – North Carolina FC has transferred defender Nelson Flores Blanco to USL Championship club San Antonio FC for an agreed-upon fee, pending league and federation approval. Flores Blanco is in his fifth season with North Carolina FC over two separate seasons and played a key role in the team’s 2023 USL League 1 Championship run.
Flores Blanco appeared in four games for NCFC in 2024, including three starts. The Alexandria, Virginia native appeared in 28 games and made 26 starts in 2023, the NCFC Championship season. He played 2,376 minutes, recorded two assists and 51 clearances, and won 61.2% of his tackles and 53.6% of his duels. He was named to the USL League One team for Week 12.
Flores Blanco joined NCFC in 2017, signing his first professional contract with NCFC as a graduate of the DC United academy. He played two seasons in Cary before heading west to play for the San Diego 1904 and Oakland Roots in 2019-2020. He rejoined North Carolina FC in 2021 and has been with the club since then.
“It has been a pleasure to watch Nelson grow as a person and as a footballer over the years. He will be missed, but this is an exciting opportunity for him to continue to develop in a new environment. Nelson’s future is very bright. He will be here forever. He will be a champion and an important part of our club,” said NCFC head coach and sporting director John Bradford.
Flores Blanco, 24, has become a mainstay for the El Salvador national team since 2021, appearing in 10 matches, including a CONCACAF Gold Cup match and a World Cup qualifier.
Flores Blanco deserves a spot on San Antonio’s roster this weekend. The NCFC roster currently has 24 players on professional contracts and eight on academy contracts.
