After a historic year of highly acclaimed game releases, 2024 has big things to fill. 2023 had plenty of Game of the Year contenders, with dozens of high-quality games released across a variety of genres. So far, 2024 is off to a strong start, as we’ve seen some strong sequels and beloved classic games get the remake treatment. Barring any major delays, it looks like we’re in for another year of genre-defining, must-play games, as expectations are high for upcoming titles like Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, and STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. , to name a few.
Just like last year, we’ll be tracking the best of the best. To be included on this list, a game must receive a review score of at least 8 (very good!) on GameSpot. This doesn’t mean you should ignore low-scoring games (or games we didn’t get to review). Because even if these titles don’t meet this criteria, there’s still a lot of fun to be had. We expect this list to be filled with great games as the years go by, and for a closer look at potential contenders, check out our feature on the most anticipated games of 2024.
